This tour from Auckland to Rotorua includes the Hobbiton movie set tour on the way. This is a wonderful way to get to Rotorua and includes a magical journey through Middle-earth to the Hobbiton movie set from “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” films.
Travel south from Auckland over the Bombay Hills to the rich farmland of the Waikato region. Your journey takes you through undulating green hills reminding you that you are approaching the Shire. Your Bush and Beach guide will give you commentary on the way down with insights about the areas you are traveling through and some background to the movies.
When we get to Hobbiton you embark on your tour of the movie set which is the largest “green set” in the world and the only part of the set remaining in New Zealand. You see 44 hobbit holes, the Mill and double arch bridge and the party tree and your Hobbiton guide will share stories about how the movies were made.
A highlight of the tour is the opportunity to go inside a Hobbit home. You will have the chance to explore inside a Hobbit home! For example – try out a hobbit sized bed, sit at the dining table and check out the amazing detail that has gone into this creation.
Before your buffet lunch feast in the Party Marquee (which is included in the price) enjoy a complimentary ale, cider or ginger beer in the Green Dragon Inn. After lunch we’ll give you a $10 souvenir voucher to spend at the Hobbiton gift shop before you continue on to Rotorua
After lunch and a chance to shop you will travel on to Rotorua, arriving at approximately 2.30pm (drop off at selected inner city Rotorua accommodation included).
As this is a one way tour, we do anticipate that all clients will be travelling with luggage and our vehicles allow for this
