Auckland’s Untamed Island Tour

This day tour to Great Barrier Island with Auckland’s best day tour company, Bush and Beach, gives you a rare glimpse of a spectacular natural world.

A thirty minute scenic flight by light plane over the sparkling waters of the Hauraki Gulf brings you to majestic Great Barrier Island. After breakfast at a local café take an easy half hour walk on gravelled tracks and boardwalks past giant Nikau palms and rare native flora and fauna over unique wetlands to the Kaitoke natural thermal springs.

The adventure continues as you drive past native bush and rugged peaks to a private farm where there is a sweeping, often deserted stretch of pristine white sand beach. There is time for a swim or a meander along one of the most beautiful beaches New Zealand has to offer. Nearby the world’s largest population of Brown Teal can be found, with a little luck you may get to see one of the friendly little ducks on the verge of extinction.

You then stop at a scenic location where you have a relaxed kiwi style picnic lunch.

This unforgettable day is rounded off with a climb to the top of Windy Canyon, a spectacular short walk. The path winds around rocky outcrops and past sheer cliffs coated with rata vines and takes in breathtaking views of the island and beyond.

This Great Barrier Island tour ends with the flight back to Auckland airport, arriving at 5.30pm.

“This trip was wordlessly breathtaking. If The Great Barrier Island is not already on your top things to do in New Zealand, it should be! ” Viator review 2016
